Brunswick Private Finance Initiative (PFI)
How are leaseholders affected?
People in Brunswick who buy their flat from the Council are called leaseholders.
A lease is a private contract between the leaseholder and the owner of the building as a whole - the Council. It describes who is responsible for doing what.
What improvements will Brunswick leaseholders get?
If you are a leaseholder you will benefit from improvements to communal areas in your building. Depending on where you live this could include improvements to balcony spaces and windows and doors; redecoration of communal areas; improved security; lifts in multi-storeys; as well as improvements to external areas and fencing.
Look out for more information at our next open days.
Will I have to pay for the improvements?
You will have to contribute to the cost of the improvements. But you cannot be charged more than £10,000 in any five year period, and you can spread the costs over the full five years.
Will I be consulted about the improvements?
Yes. We'll send you regular newsletters, invite you to open days, and give you formal consultation notices. When we know which organisation will be doing the work, we will give you details of what's proposed, tell you the potential costs and the impact on your service charge.
Will the terms of my lease change when the new PFI contractor takes over?
No, the terms of your lease will stay the same. The PFI contractor will manage your lease on our behalf, and will be your first point of contact for reporting repairs to communal areas and paying your service charge. Until the PFI starts, contact the Council as you do now.
