The future of council housing: West Gorton

New homes to rent

Local people are look forwarding to 171 new, high-quality council homes to rent in West Gorton.

Building has started on four sites across the area. Two companies, GB Solutions and Bramall Construction, are building 92 homes around Pottery Lane and Wenlock Way; 60 homes along Hyde Road; and 18 near Armitage school.

Mix of homes

There'll be a mix of high-quality apartments, bungalows and houses at affordable rents.

Forty-one of the homes will be for families, and several will be for older people. One will be purpose-built for a local family with physical disabilities.

Local people have told us they want some homes reserved for older residents, so one block of 28 apartments at the top of Wenlock Way will be for over-fifties only.

All the homes will meet the highest design and environmental standards, so there'll be lower fuel bills for new residents.

More new homes

As well as these new council homes, local landlord Guinness Northern Counties are building 33 new homes on the site of the old Carrisbrook centre to bring even more housing choice for local people.
