How to claim an exemption because everyone in your home is a student, or money off because of a student
To claim a reduction you must give us proof that you are a full-time student:
- If you live in Manchester and study at Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Manchester or the University of Bolton
the proof we need is your student number. You can use the student reduction online claim form to give us your student number and the other details we need. However, if you have full-time students living with you who don't study at one of the above universities, you will have to post us a copy of each person's student certificate. They can get this from their college's Admissions Office. Make sure you include your name and address with the certificates. Send them to the Council Tax Service, PO Box 147, Manchester, M15 5TU. Or you can fax them to us on 0161 953 8226.
- If you live in Manchester and study at another college or university
the proof we need is a copy of your student certificate. You can get this from your college's Admissions Office. Fill in the paper version of the Council Tax student reduction form and send it to us with a copy of your student certificate. You must also include copies of student certificates for each full-time student living with you, unless they study at one of the universities listed above (if so, please include each person's student number and the name of their university instead). Send the form and certificates to the Council Tax Service, PO Box 147, Manchester, M15 5TU. Or you can fax them to us on 0161 953 8226.
- If you prefer, you can claim by email. You must also send us a copy of a student certificate for all full-time students, including yourself, unless they study at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester University or Bolton University. Email us at ctax.enquiries@manchester.gov.uk with the following information.
-
your full name
-
your address (including post code)
-
your Council Tax account number (if you have one)
-
your phone number
