Data not held by the local authority
Information collected by registration officers while carrying out their statutory duties, in relation to registration of births, marriages, deaths and stillbirths, is not held by the local authority, but by the registration officers.
Registration information, including appointment information, will only be shared where it is legal to do so.
We are required, by law, to share data to support the detection and investigation of sham marriages / civil partnerships and other criminal activity.

Civil Partnership information will be treated in the same way as registration information, referred to above.
Citizenship and Nationality / Settlement Checking information
Any information gathered for Citizenship and Nationality / Settlement Checking is not shared with any third parties apart from the Home Office.

Whether the information is held by the registration officer, or by the local authority:
we will keep your personal data secure
- we will only keep data as long as we need it or we are required to keep it by law; and
- we will only share your personal data if it is necessary and the law allows this e.g. for crime prevention or detection of fraud.
