The Council and democracy Deputy Leader of the Council

Councillor Bernard Priest: Questions from October 2013 to the municipal year 2014

Cllr Bernard Priest

Justin Costello who lives and works in Manchester asked

There is a ‘tip’ on the side of Ardwick station that just appears to get bigger and bigger and bigger, not only is this a hideous eyesore, the rubbish now is above the actual roofs of the buildings on the site.  You can actually see the diggers moving the waste from Piccadilly station. Why has this been authorised for a ghastly sight on the way into the centre?  Does the council have a plan to address this or is the grass going to grow over the waste so much as to cover and forget the refuge?

Councilor Bernard Priest, Deputy Leader replied

The waste disposal facility behind Ardwick station is a private waste disposal facility licensed by the Environment Agency. Officers of the Council are in dialogue with representatives of the Environment Agency who are aware of issues at this site and are taking the appropriate action to ensure the issues are resolved.  If you require more information, please contact EA Environment Officer Simon Crozier on 01925542742.
