Emergency Planning Overview
Emergency Planning Policy Objectives
The City Council's key policy objectives for Emergency Planning are:
- To establish partnerships dedicated to the resolution of all difficulties presented by major emergencies, of any type, with the principal aims of preserving life and property, minimising harmful effects and bringing about a swift return to 'normal' life
- To ensure the most effective management of response to major emergencies
- To maintain a dedicated team of staff who will co-ordinate the activities of the City Council services and others with a role in responding to major emergencies
- To pursue a policy of total co-operation with the Emergency Services and Voluntary Agencies in preparation for and response to major emergencies
- To provide the resources required to pursue the principal aims of the major emergency plan and other specific plans
- To ensure effective communication with local residents about a major emergency
- To promote, encourage and support the active involvement of the community in response to major emergencies
- To promote the welfare and well-being of all engaged in response to major emergencies
