LGBT History
It's not over yet…
In 2003 the City Council encouraged lesbian and gay employees to be involved in a new Lesbian and Gay Employee Group. Today the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) employee group helps to improve services for LGBT service users, contributes to improvements on employment issues and offers a forum for mutual support.
As a contribution to EuroPride 2003 Manchester City Council organised a major national conference: "A New Agenda for Equality for Lesbians and Gay Men," on 22nd August, 2003. This attracted 260 representatives from local authorities, police forces, Trade Unions and voluntary groups as well as many politicians and individuals, to share good practice on achieving equality for lesbians and gay men.
