LGBT History Month celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. Manchester City Council is celebrating LGBT History Month throughout February with a series of events organised by Council departments and partner organisations.

Local events

Throughout February - FREE - Greater Manchester Police:  As part of LGBT History Month in February, Greater Manchester Police's People & Development Branch and the Lesbian And Gay Staff Affiliation (LAGSA) will be holding a number of Film Nights.
Venue: Sir David Wilmot Conference Suite, Sedgley Park Centre, Sedgley Park Road, Prestwich M25 0JT.
Contact: If you would like to come along please register your interest of which film you would like to see and the number of people attending at lagsa@gmp.pnn.police.uk at least 2 days before the showing of the film.

All the films shown will either have a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender theme. Each film will start at 18:30 on the dates listed below.  It is free of charge to watch a film, although places are limited. The bar and lounge area will be open afterwards, so you can have a chat about the film or just catch up with friends and colleagues. Bring your own popcorn and pick 'n mix for a night in to celebrate LGBT culture, comedy and heritage. 

  • Wednesday 24th February 18:30 - Beautiful Thing (Cert. 15)
    The offbeat, underachieving denizens of a southeast London apartment building get an emotional wake-up call when two of the neighbours--two teen boys--unexpectedly fall in love. Tender-hearted kitchen-sink realism from Channel Four Films, adapted from the play by Jonathan Harvey.  *Contains adult themes and strong language*

Tuesday 23rd February at 18:30 till late - £10

Village Drinks Up North: A special event in partnership with Manchester Pride.  We'll also be joined by patrons of Manchester Pride, and a special guest-speaker, John Amaechi.Cloud 23 creates an atmosphere like no other, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering jaw-dropping views across a constantly changing cityscape.  Half of all funds raised from this event will be donated to Manchester Pride.

Wednesday 24th February at 18:00 - FREE

"That's Gay!?" Stigmatisation and punishment of human difference in Victorian Manchester; inventing and developing stereotypes past and present.  A talk by Jeff Evans.
Venue: Central Library Committee Room 2nd Floor.

Saturday 27th February at 14:30 - FREE

'LGBT Heritage Trail of the City Centre' with a visit to Manchester Archives and Local Studies, led by Jon Atkin.
Venue: Central Library.
