Cash Grants to Improve Residential Areas

Cash Grants Programme

More than £1m available for community groups

Manchester City Council is launching its 11th year of Cash grants scheme, giving community groups across the city a chance to improve their local neighbourhoods.

Following the success of previous years, the City Council has once again set aside £1.2 million to help local people improve their areas and make them cleaner, safer and better places to live in.

The Cash grants scheme together with Proud of Manchester campaign aims to help local residents and community groups take on the projects that can make a real difference to their lives and neighbourhoods.

We believe that local people know best what changes are needed to improve their environment and quality of life and these grants are here to help turn these ideas into reality.

In the past we have seen many excellent, innovative schemes. Many of those have made a real difference to the way people feel about their local communities, the satisfaction they get out of using new and improved facilities as well as the pleasure of becoming involved.

Grants can be used to fund projects that will improve the local environment, build a stronger sense of community or contribute to delivering ward plans' priorities , which you can get from your Ward Co-ordination Support Officer, details in Ward Co-ordination.

What you need to do

Once you have discussed with friends and neighbours what it is you would like to do with a grant, you need to think about who will carry out the work. If it will be you and the members of your group, you just need to complete the application form and send it to the address for your ward, these details are listed on the application form, you will also need to include any proof of how much your project will cost. Alternatively you can apply on line and we will contact you if we need proof of how much the project will cost.

If you decide you will need to use a contractor to do the work or supply any materials, you will need to get a quote from them and send it in with the application form, if you apply online we will contact you for this information. We may have to ask for more quotes later on if your application is successful.

If you want to use a Council department to do the work, your ward support officer can tell you who you need to speak to so you can find out how much your project will cost. You just need to write the amount on the form and tell us who you spoke to in the department.
