Libraries Ongoing improvements in Manchester’s libraries

Replacing our library system’s operating software

We need to replace our library system’s operating software. This essential maintenance is a big job and will have some impact on library services.

What will be affected and when?

We are currently bringing the system back online. We hope to make the library catalogue, reservations and online account management available as soon as possible.

What about renewing my books?

We have automatically extended our due-back dates until after the work has finished so you don’t need to worry about this.

If you wish to renew a book from Monday 12 October please call 0161 234 1990 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 9am to 5pm).

What about access to computers in libraries?

Customers will be unable to access computers on Monday 12 October 8am to 1pm (Central Library and Hulme Library) and 1pm to 5pm (all other libraries).

What about other services?

Other services will not be affected, so you can still:
  • Issue and return books/CDs/DVDs etc. at libraries;
  • Use the free wifi and PCs; and
  • Access our range of e-books and e-resources.
The improvements will result in better search facilities, easier management of online accounts, and – in future – will also allow membership access at all libraries in Greater Manchester.
