Philips Park
History of Philips Park
Philips Park significantly was the first public park opened in Manchester, and one of three opened in Manchester and Salford on the same day in 1846 (the others were Queens Park in Manchester and Peel Park in Salford), which were the first public parks in England.
Philips Park was opened as a result of 7 years of staunch campaigning by Mark Philips MP to the then city Corporation for the purchase and provision of suitable open spaces in Manchester where parks could be built for the working people.
