Broadhurst Park
About Broadhurst Park
Originating from a 19th century park, Broadhurst Park sits in the Moston ward in a highly populated area with housing estates all around and two local schools, one of which is on the park boundary and the other across the road.
The park is an important footballing leisure facility in North Manchester, and provides a range of excting and diverse activity opportunities and community events. It is key green space within the Irk River Valley corridor. Broadhurst Park and Field stage summer funfairs, an annual bonfire/firework display and summer sports activities for children.
The majority of the site is open amenity grassland with some individual trees in grass. There is a formally laid out landscape area. The north aspect of the park accommodates informal recreation and community events. The southern section of the park contains relatively widespread woodland and a woodland walk.
There is great potential to enhance the environmental significance of this area. Recent drainage improvements to the football fields have greatly increased the biodiversity significance of the neighbouring Broadhurst Clough area, which now is an place of open water harbouring much wildlife.
In 2010 Broadhurst Park was awarded a Green Flag Award for the second consecutive time. The award is a national benchmark standard for parks and open spaces.
