About Alexandra Park

Historically Alexandra Park is a significant Victorian park which has retained its appeal and is a true community park.

The annual Caribbean Carnival takes place in the park, alongside regular amateur football games, 5K runs and health walks lead by the dedicated park wardens.

Alexandra Park Regeneration Project

We are pleased to announce that the bid we submitted to the Heritage Lottery Parks for People fund at the end of August was successful.

The £2.2 million from the HLF will be matched by funding from the Council creating a project that will bring major physical improvements to the Park alongside a programme of community activities.

The coming months will see preparation for the Capital Works which should begin around October 2012 and last around 15 months.

Applications have also been made to Sport England and other sports bodies which focus on transforming the sports facilities in the Park.

Open Athletics

For information regarding the regular 5K runs in Alexandra Park, please visit the Open Athletics - Alexandra Park webpage. The 5k's have been taking place since July 2005 and they are organised with the collaboration of the Friends of Alexandra Park. The runs are under UK Athletics Rules and the course is a certified accurate 5k course by UK Athletics. The race is ideal for novices, but it is also a fast course for experienced runners.

The Friends of Alexandra Park is a dedicated voluntary group of local residents founded in 2001. The group was set up to help change the image of the Park and to raise funds for the improvement of the Park. The Friends encourage people to make greater use of Alexandra Park, help the Park staff, and arrange and support events throughout the year.
