About Culmere Park

Green Flag Award

From the 1930s plans were drawn up with the vision of Wythenshawe as a garden suburb and the concept continues today in Culmere Park. It is one of the smaller parks in the Woodhouse Park Ward, bordered by two primary schools with which it has very close links.

The park has recently benefited from a major redevelopment which has seen the addition of several new features:

  1. New signage and information lecterns at entrances
  2. A programme of improvements to paths, street furniture and fencing at entrances
  3. Opening up of sight lines, which include the removal of poor quality shrubbery at entrances and problem areas

Numerous bulb-planting events are held throughout the year with the local school in which native species such as bluebells are planted. The warden has begun to collate a species list for the park. We hope to increase bio-diversity provision in the park by the creation of new habitats, correct management of present ones and community events/school visits.

Culmere Park has an active Friends Group, which played a vital role in the redevelopment of the park. The Friends group, with the assistance of the warden service, hold an annual fun day in the park.

In 2010, Culmere Park achieved a Green Flag Award for the third consecutive time - the national standard for parks in England.
