Heaton Park
About Heaton Park
Covering 247 hectares of parkland,
Heaton Park is a huge family park owned by Manchester City Council, 4 miles north of the city centre, nestlling in the foothills of the Pennines and ringed by the former mill towns of Oldham, Rochdale and Bury. There is so much to see and do that you'll return again and again.
Heaton Park is also one of the largest municipal parks in Europe, and has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award each year since 2005. It has also received a Heritage Green Flag. These awards are the benchmark standard set for parks and opens spaces nationally.
A Grade II listed park on English Heritage's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, Heaton Park contains 8 listed structures including the splendid Grade I listed Heaton Hall, a James Wyatt house described by Pevsner as 'one of the finest houses of its period in the country'.
Its spectacular gently rolling scenery provides an attractive setting for leisure activities for visitors of all ages. It is also a memorable setting for many outdoor events, like summer fun days and family workshops, bonfire and firework displays, theatrical productions, concerts and other major events.
Leisure Services manages the park in partnership with commercial organisations and community groups and together they make a visit to Heaton Park a great day out for the whole family.
