Opening times

The park is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Close to the M60 motorway, served by Metrolink which links to the national rail network and with Manchester Airport only 40 minutes away, Heaton Park is easily accessible.

By Bus:

You can take the number 135 from Manchester City Centre, which stops at the tram station on Bury Old Road. Many buses travel to Heaton Park, including 56, 59, 64, 64A, 135, 137, 138, 150, 151, 484, 495. Please check with GMPTE for the latest travel information and an interactive journey planner.

By Metrolink Tram

The nearest metrolink tram station is Heaton Park. Trams run regularly from the City Centre and other destinations. There is a gate into the park directly opposite the station, and once in the park you should keep walking straight ahead ignoring the paths going off to the left and right. At the 'T-junction' turn left and walk up the hill. You will eventually see the hall to your right and the Farm Centre buildings -with the clock tower to your left. It takes 10 - 15 minutes to walk from the Station Gate into the historic core of the park.

Car Parking

The three main vehicular entrances are St Margaret's Road, Smithy Lodge and Sheepfoot Lane entrances.

  1. The St Margaret's Road entrance leads to the North Car Park which is nearest to the historic core of the park. The St Margaret's Road entrance also leads to the Active Zone Car Park which is near to the Hidden Gem Garden Centre and Bowls Pavilion.
  2. Middleton Road's Smithy Lodge entrance leads to The Smithy Lodge Car Park. This car park is nearest to the park's golf facilities.
  3. The Sheepfoot Lane entrance leads to the South Car Park. This car park is nearest to the boating lake and Lakeside Café.
  4. The Grand Lodge Car Park is accessed at the junction of Sheepfoot Lane and Bury Old Road. This is only opened for major events.

Car parking charges are made every weekend and during holidays throughout the year. Charges are made on entry to the park between 10am-5pm. You may also be charged for parking at other times when large events take place.

Disabled Car Parking

There are disabled parking bays in the Hall and Lake car parks. Parking is free for holders of disabled parking scheme permits provided these are displayed in the car.

Coach Parking

Please use the Hall car park, accessing the park through the St Margaret's Road entrance.
