Sport
A key component of the project to restore Alexandra Park is the revitalisation of sporting activity in the park. We have worked closely with the community and key National Governing Bodies of Sport to develop a plan for community participation and new facilities that includes changing rooms, new tennis courts, football, cricket and lacrosse pitches, two softball diamonds and the creation of an Alexandra Park Community Sports Alliance.
Despite the lack of success of the recent bid to Sport England we have continued to work with them and individual Sports National Governing Bodies to develop our plans and have identified other funding programmes that are relevant to Alexandra Park. Discussions with our funding partners have given us confidence that they still see this as an important project and it is anticipated that a further bid will be made later this year.
The City Council is committed to the restoration and regeneration of Alexandra Park so that it once again becomes a hive of sporting, physical and cultural activity as its Victorian designer intended.
An Alexandra Park Community Sports Alliance has been set up for local sports groups to join forces on the project. For more information contact Phil Clarke on philclarke@rfu.com, 07730 814162.
