Friends of Parks Groups
Why join or create a Friends of Park Group?
People tend to create or join a Friends group because they want to take a direct role in improving their local park. For example, they may wish to:
- regenerate a neglected, negative and underused space
- improve safety by working with parks staff and neighbourhood teams to put a stop to antisocial behaviour
- undertake infrastructure projects such as installing a play area or improving access
- organise environmental clean ups, biodiversity projects or community events and activities in their park
Today Manchester has 50 Friends groups, with 160 parks and river valley sites spread across the city. Whilst Manchester's Friends network is seen an example of good practice, there are still many parks in our city in need of some loving care from local people who would like to improve their green spaces and make a positive difference in their neighbourhoods.
