Designated Neighbourhood Areas and Neighbourhood Forums

Neighbourhood Areas

Name of the Neighbourhood Area: The Castlefield Neighbourhood Area

Applicant: Castlefield Forum

A group called Castlefield Forum applied for designation of a Neighbourhood Area in Castlefield. The Council refused the application.

On 19 October 2016, we instead designated an alternative area as Castlefield Neighbourhood Area. The area differs from the one applied for by the Castlefield Forum as it does not include Cornbrook, land to the north of the railway at St George’s Island, land at Water St (including the former Granada site), the Museum of Science and Industry, St John’s, land between Deansgate and the Roman fort area, and land to the east of the Bridgewater Viaduct.

The Castlefield Neighbourhood Area is not designated as a business area.

You can see the Decision Document at the Local History desk at Central Library.

Name of the Neighbourhood Area: The Northenden Neighbourhood Area

Applicant: The Northenden Neighbourhood Forum

A group called the Northenden Neighbourhood Forum applied for designation of a Neighbourhood Area in Northenden. The Council refused the application.

On the 20 November 2013 the Council instead designated the area shown on the plan Neighbourhood Area as Northenden Neighbourhood Area. The area differs from the one applied for by the Northenden Neighbourhood Forum as it does not include Sharston Industrial Estate and the carriageways of the motorways/Princess Parkway. Where the river Mersey forms the boundary of the Northenden Neighbourhood Area the boundary is in the middle of the river.

The Northenden Neighbourhood Area is not designated as a business area.

You can see a map of the Northenden Neighbourhood Area and the Decision Document explaining our decision, or see the Decision Document at the local history desk in Central Library, or at Northenden Community Library.
