Work Related Road Safety
Driving to/from work
It's your responsibility!
We all have a responsibility to ensure that we drive safely, maintain our vehicles in roadworthy condition and make every effort to promote our safety and that of others for the benefit of the environment. Manchester City Council is committed to reducing the risk of work-related road traffic crashes and collisions.
As an employer, Manchester City Council recognises its duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, to assess the risks to employees and others who may be affected by driving at work and put in place control measures to reduce such risks.
We don't want you to become a statistic. As a responsible employer Manchester City Council is promoting safe driving practices at work. We want the roads to be safer for everyone.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recently issued a stark warning to companies to make sure they comply with Health and Safety law and to take into account the recent Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, which came into force on 6th April 2008. One part of the legislation staes "Should someone who is driving on your behalf be involved in a fatal road traffic crash, managers as well as the company could be investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and/or the police for not only for a breach of health and safety law but possibly a conviction for Corporate Manslaughter.
