Street parties
Street party - application process
Street parties and fêtes are when groups of residents get together and arrange for their neighbours and community.
The number one tip for holding a street party or fête is to plan early, think about what you want and let us know what you are planning at least 4-6 weeks in advance if this involves road closures.
What you can do
If the street party or fête requires road closures, please complete the Street parties application form and send this to us (address on the right hand side).
Remember to apply early, at least 4-6 weeks in advance.
Whilst we are pleased to be able to support community events we cannot be held responsible for any damage to property or injury caused to individuals as a result of holding the event.
The likelihood of anything of this nature happening is small however there is always a risk and to mitigate against any liability it may be worth considering taking out public liability insurance. Your own household insurers would be able to give you advice on this matter.
What we can do
All applications will be looked on favourably; however there may be reasons why an application to close a road will be refused, which includes:
- road forms part of the strategic network i.e. it is a main commuter route;
- road is already being used as a diversion route, but not for a street party;
- closure of the road would prohibit access to businesses;
- closure of the road would prohibit access to emergency services stations or depots; and
- closure of the road would prohibit access to other roads.
