Potholes

Maintenance and repair of public roads, pavements and cycleways

Going potty: the Council fills in 600 potholes a week

We deal with the maintenance and repair of public roads, pavements and cycleways within Manchester.

This includes problems caused by bad weather, accidents, and general wear and tear.

The term "pothole" doesn't just mean a hole in the road, this can also be loose paving stones, dips, cracks or sunken roads, pavement and cycleways.

We inspect all roads, pavements and cycleways at least every 6 months, these inspections are based on National Guidance 'well maintained highways' which is published by the Road Liaison Group.

What can you do

If you see a road, pavement or cycleways in need of repair report this to us, you will need the following information:

  • the location of the problem; and
  • description.

What can we do

Following your request an officer will attend and inspect the problem.

Repairs will be fixed in order of priority i.e. busy main routes will take priority over a quite residential street.

What don't we do

We don't maintain unadopted roads or private roads, please contact us if you require further information about road adoption.
