Waste Storage and Collection Guidance

When should the Waste Storage and Collection Guidance be used?

MARCH 2011

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS GUIDANCE WILL CHANGE SOON, SO PLEASE GET IN TOUCH BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY PLANNING APPLICATION

The following information, and linked pages, should be used as a guide only, until the new guidance has been published.

The guidance should be used from the earliest stages of building design. Designing in adequately sized bin storage areas, access for collection crews and vehicles and other aspects of waste management are difficult to apply retrospectively.

The recommendations are integral to the design of a building and provide information that is useful for building designers and assures planning officers that a suitable waste management strategy has been developed.

All planning applications should be accompanied by a waste management statement which addresses each of the headings in the guidance document.
