Request to remove bulky or unwanted items

Bulky items of waste

Bulky or unwanted items could be anything such as beds, sofas, cookers, kettles and TV's.

We will collect bulky or unwanted items free of charge from your house, you can either contact us or better still use the online form below and we will arrange for the items to be removed. The first 2 collections per year (April to March) are free, any additional request will be charged at £20 per collection. A bulky waste collection is 3 items equals one collection or 6 items equals 2 collections.

What can you do

Before you ask us to take your bulky items away, there are several other things you can do, to help the city reduce, reuse and recycle more waste.

What can we do

We will collect your bulky waste from your front gate, back alley/walk way, outside the alley gate or near the bin area (if you live in a flat).

You don't need to leave the rubbish outside for days, just put it in the arranged place on the day or the night before.

What don't we do

We do not collect any of the following items, you should take these to your local Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC):

  • hazardous waste i.e. asbestos, gardening chemicals or paint stripper;
  • items left in your home by a tradesman (plumber/joiner);
  • laminate floorboards or kitchen worktops;
  • window frames, external doors and conservatories;
  • fencing, greenhouses, sheds or petrol lawn mowers; and
  • tyres, gas canisters, car batteries, parts or engines.

It's your responsibility to make sure that any waste from your property is disposed of properly.

If you are having, or have had work done in your home and have paid for the waste to be removed then it's your responsibility to make sure that the person taking it away is a registered waste carrier.

To check, visit the Environment Agency Public Register, always ask for a copy of the receipt for the disposal of your waste.

Recycle!

Take your items to your nearest HWRC where there are different areas for dropping off your waste.

Last resort!
