Why use real nappies?

Real Nappies campaign

Real nappies nowadays are trendy, durable and excellent value for money.

Why bother?

It's estimated that - in the UK - 8 million disposable nappies are thrown away every day (that's 3.5 billion a year)

All of these nappies end up in our landfill sites, so using real nappies is a great alternative that will have a dramatic impact upon the environment.

Some people believe that real nappies are also healthier for our babies, because they're made of natural fabrics - unlike disposables which include a variety of plastics and chemicals to aid absorbency.

It's also estimated (by the Women's Environmental Network) that using real nappies saves about £500 per child over the course of their nappy-wearing days.

Find out more - there's a local group offering supplies and support, and also a local, specialist laundry company who will collect and wash your nappies for you. See the Recycle for Greater Manchester website for more organisations.
