About Manchester Event Volunteers

Manchester Event Volunteers (MEV) developed from the Volunteer Crew at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.

An interest in volunteering was one of the many successful legacies left to the North West region and, since 2002, thousands of volunteers have joined us to support hundreds of community, regional and national events.

Sporting Events we have provided volunteers for include:

  • The Salford and London Triathlons
  • The Women's Euro Football Championship
  • Great Manchester Run
  • The UEFA Champions League Final
Non-sporting and long-term opportunities have included many pop concerts at the City of Manchester Stadium, working with the British Red Cross, GMP's Special Constabulary, St Ann's Hospice and Manchester Pride.

Volunteering with MEV is about personal choice and you can decide which events you would like to be involved with from a list of options which are updated regularly. There are also a range of training opportunities that can lead to recognised qualifications and, if necessary, volunteers can receive help with job search.

Our monthly newsletter is distributed to all volunteers by post or via e-mail and back issues are available on our website. In it we highlight current volunteering opportunities and provide news, views and event reviews.
