Manchester People - Issue 37, New Year 2009
You know good food in Manchester!
Do you know a café, restaurant, canteen or lunch club that serves good, healthy food?
We want to celebrate their success and recognise their nutritious know-how by awarding them a prestigious Food Futures certificate.
Manchester Food Futures is a Manchester City Council and NHS partnership that promotes healthy, sustainable food for everyone. Good eating places are a vital ingredient in our campaign.
We're not just rewarding high-class eating places - we're looking for the culinary choice and dazzling variety in local communities across the city, from hidden-away cafés, to big bustling restaurants.
Plenty of places are already proudly displaying their certificates. These include Shlurp, a city-centre soup-and-sandwich shop on Brazennose Street; Eighth Day on Oxford Road (pictured); Whitworth Art Gallery café; and Tree of Life, a community café in Wythenshawe. Check out www.foodfutures.info for a full list of our topnosh eateries.
"We're always improving the quality of our food," says Lucy Walker, owner of Shlurp. "So the Food Futures award is great news. Our gold certificate is a real quality-assurance mark for our customers."
So look out for the Food Futures certifi- cate when you're next eating out. And if you know a place that deserves a reward - tell us!
