Manchester People - Issue 37, New Year 2009

How well do we celebrate success and achievement?

Manchester is a city of worldclass achievements and it can be proud of so many things. It is the birthplace of the modern computer, has a thriving music industry, and is famed for its sport. It's a city steeped in history and its university receives record applications every year. In 2002 it held a successful Commonwealth Games and has built a sporting infrastructure, which has contributed to the unparalleled successes of the 2008 British Olympic team. But do we celebrate our famous people and our achievements enough? Is there anything else we'd like to see receive recognition? Manchester People reporter Janet Reeder took to the streets to find out.

Margaret Stephenson, Head of Events, provides the responses.
