Make sure you're registered to vote!
If you haven’t already, now is the time to make sure your details on the electoral register are correct.
We are currently carrying out the annual update, called the canvass, and people in every home should have received and responded to a Household Enquiry Form with details of who is registered to vote where you live.
By law you must respond to this form – even if it’s just to confirm that the details included are correct and do not need to be updated. You should tell us everyone at the address who is eligible to vote, as well as 16 and 17-year-olds who will become eligible in the next few years.
Anyone who is not already registered will then receive an individual Invitation to Register, which then needs to be completed using the paper form or online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Please respond to your Household Enquiry Form by Monday 25 September if you have not already done so. If you have received an Invitation to Register, please respond by the date shown on the letter. If you do not respond, we are legally required to send a canvass inspector to your property to chase up a response.
Please note you are not automatically registered to vote even if you are paying council tax, as this is a separate legal process.
