Budget and Council Tax 2013/14
Council tax is your contribution to the services that keep Manchester running - schools, roads, libraries, waste disposal, as well as the police and fire service. This year council tax will increase by 3.7% to support increased costs particularly relating to levies received from the Waste Disposal Authority.
2013/14 is the first of a 2 year budget plan approved by Council on the 8th March 2013. Approving a two year budget plan was in response to the two year finance settlement issued by the Government in December 2012 which set out a level of reduced funding for those two years.
The two year budget includes a savings package designed to achieve £80m of savings across the two years. This is on top of the £170m of savings for 2011/12 and 2012/13.
