Community Guardians
What a Community Guardian does
- Do you care about the appearance of your neighbourhood?
- Do you want to help improve your environment?
Why not become a Community Guardian. . .
A Community Guardian is a resident who 'adopts' their local area and who takes an active interest in working with Manchester City Council to ensure that any environmental problems or defects in the area are dealt with promptly.
It's a voluntary role and can involve as much or as little time as you like. It can include:
- Taking a few minutes to report graffiti, litter or a broken street light;
- Organising and/or participating in local environmental improvements, clean ups or litter picks;
- Monitoring potential dog fouling problems and reporting offenders;
- Generally reporting anything wrong (or right) with the environment and the Council's environmental services
We'll provide you with an Information Pack which will include freephone numbers to report environmental issues so it won't cost you anything, just a little of your time.
Forums are held in each area to give you the opportunity to raise any unresolved issues, to discuss possible environmental improvements and to encourage a support network of volunteers.
You will receive newsletters to keep you up to date with the scheme and you can find out what other Community Guardians have been doing. It gives you the opportunity to share positive experiences and success stories. We will also send out information about events and campaigns that are running across the City.
Why not join the growing number of volunteers throughout the city who are succeeding in making their neighbourhood a better place to live and see what a positive difference you can make in your area. If you're interested in becoming a Community Guardian please contact the Community Guardian Team on 0800 083 7924 or e-mail communityguardians@manchester.gov.uk
