Information for Home Movers
If you've just moved house, you need to register to vote at your new property.
If you don't, you may not be able to vote.
The electoral register is maintained by the Electoral Services Unit. We use the register to issue ballot papers at elections, so you need to make sure you tell us when you move - even if you'll be living at a new address within Manchester.
To register, fill in the registration form, print it, sign it and send it back to us. Elections can be called at short notice, so it's important to get registered straight away and ensure that you don't lose your right to vote.
Between mid-August and November each year, Annual Electoral Registration forms are delivered to every house in Manchester. If you've just moved into a new property at the time when the annual form is delivered, you might find that it includes the details of the previous occupants. It's important to update us by deleting their details and replacing them with your own, then sending the form back to us as soon as you can.
The majority of elections are held in May. If you move into a new property after the annual canvass of the previous autumn has taken place, but still want to make sure you are able to vote in forthcoming elections, simply register by filling in the registration form, printing it out and sending it back to us.
Remember, the deadline for registration is 11 working days before each election day - so don't leave it too late, or you won't be able to vote in that election.
How do I de-register from my old address?
The registration of electors at your old address becomes the responsibility of the new occupants. When the next Annual Registration Form arrives at their property, they will need to delete your details from the form.
