Rolling and Annual registration

The difference between 'rolling' and 'annual' registration forms

Annual Registration Form

Between August and October each year, we deliver the annual electoral registration form to every home in Manchester.  This form contains the names of the people who are currently registered to vote at that address.

If you are new to the property, or any changes need to be made to your details, you must amend the form, sign it and send it back to us.  A free business reply envelope is included, so registering in this way doesn't cost you a penny.

If there are no changes to be made, you can still post the form back to us, but you can also let us know for free via text, freephone or online.

By law, you must re-register every year, even if there are no changes to your household's form.

You can register to vote if you are:

  • living at an address in Manchester
  • over 16 (but you cannot vote until you are 18)
  • a British or Commonwealth Citizen, or
  • a citizen of the Irish Republic or other European Union state.

'Rolling' registration form

You can register to vote at any time by completing the rolling registration form.  Once we receive this form, we will add you to the electoral register as soon as we can.

Use the rolling registration form if you:

  • move house,
  • change your name, or
  • are not registered to vote

Please note - From December to August each year, the rolling registration forms we receive are compiled and added to the electoral register on a monthly basis.  From 10th August - 30th November 2011, any rolling registration forms received will be added to the new register, which is published on 1st December 2011.

Even if you fill in a rolling registration form, we still need you to complete your Annual Registration Form when it is deliverered.  This can be done using an automated service (text, freephone, or online) if there are no changes to be made.
