Photocopying and Self Service Photography
Please note all photocopying is subject to copyright and preservation considerations.
There are self service photocopiers in all Central Library departments (except Manchester Archives and Local Studies). These cost £0.10 (Black and White A4), £0.20 (Black and White A3), £0.30 (Colour A4) and £0.50 (Colour A3).
Copying of archives and local studies reference material is undertaken by staff in Manchester Archives and Local Studies and costs £0.15 (Black and White A4), £0.25 (Black and White A3), £0.30 (Colour A4) and £0.50 (Colour A3).
Photocopies provided by post cost £0.15 (A4) and £0.25 (A3) (plus postage and packing). Customers should complete a "Published" or "Unpublished" photocopying form for postal requests.
Please note that for preservation reasons:
- Fragile material should not be photocopied
- No bound archive material can be copied
- No rare books or reference books pre 1850 should be copied.
- Customers should ask staff for advice on photocopying of pre 1900 library material.
Customers are welcome to use their own cameras to photograph library and archive collections providing they observe the following conditions which are designed to protect material and to safeguard copyright:
- Customers must sign the copyright declaration and adhere to copyright laws.
- Material at risk of damage cannot be photographed.
- In some cases archives cannot be photographed because the depositor has placed a restriction on copying.
- Disturbance should not be caused to other readers.
- Customers must pay the photography charge:
- £3 one photograph
- £5 half day (upto 4 hours)
- £10 whole day
- £50 per hour (commercial)
