Multi-Cultural Manchester
Photographs
Our Local Images Collection should also be checked, as this features an extensive set of keywords for search purposes. These would show up, for example, images relating to the Polish or Jewish communities.
In addition, when the images were digitised, those featuring people of a recognisably different ethnic background were systematically keyworded as 'black-men', 'black-women', 'black-children' and so on. A great many of the photographs were taken in the period 1950-1975 to record areas before they were demolished, and local residents were often captured as part of the scene.
