Disability access for the County Record Office
Physical access
Greater Manchester County Record Office (with Manchester Archives) is at 56 Marshall Street, Manchester, M4 5FU, between Oldham Road and Rochdale Road.
The search room is based on the upper ground floor. Stairway access is from the main entrance on Marshall Street.
The access route to our main searchroom is restricted to 660mm in width in places. Therefore, a fully accessible private study room is also available. We request that all visitors book in advance, whether they wish to use the main searchroom or the private study room.
Level access for wheelchair users is via the rear of our building. A large vehicle access gate and a smaller pedestrian and wheelchair access gateway are located on Mason Street, between the side elevation of our building and a new apartment complex. Please enter through the gateway and proceed to the large roller shutter door at the rear of the Record Office building. Please press the buzzer for attention, and a member of staff will greet you and facilitate your access to the building via a wheelchair lift.
Local Parking
Blue badge holders can park on Marshall Street or Mason Street. There are local pay and display car parks on the surrounding streets.
Document Access Aids
A Clearview magnifying machine is installed in our private study room to help users with visual impairments. An audio loop is installed in the search room.
Toilet Facilities
Customer toilets, suitable for wheelchair use, are on the upper ground floor opposite the search room.
