Children's Library Services
Young People
There are plenty of things for you at the library if you are a teenager or young adult.
The Moss Side Powerhouse Library
The Moss Side Powerhouse is a building for 8-25 year olds and has a Young People's Library. You can come and use the computers, get help with your homework at the Homework Zone, borrow books and CD's, flick through the magazines or just sit, chat and chill with your friends. All the library facilities are free.
The Powerhouse also has Youth Clubs, a Connexions advice centre and a sports hall and recording studio. There are events and activities from sports and the Project Cuts music/recording project to arts and crafts and trips out during the holidays.
If you live in the area, why not come down and have a look.
Other Libraries
- All libraries have computers and if you have a library ticket it's easy to book one. You can check your emails, type up school/college work or look at your favourite sites.
- Libraries contain lots of useful information - from GCSE and exam guides to how to write CV's and what to do at a job interview. We also have books and information on subjects like health, money and where to go for advice as well as stuff on music, sport, other hobbies and leisure interests.
- All libraries have collections of stories by popular teenage authors. Everything from Jacqueline Wilson and Philip Pullman to the latest cult series and TV tie-ins. Looking for something good to read? We have lots of graphic novels - everyone's favourite superheroes - Batman, X-Men, Justice League etc as well as Manga titles and books on how to draw your own comic strips for budding artists.
- You can borrow CD's for a small charge and some libraries have videos, DVD's and Playstation games for hire.
- Reading Groups. If you are interested in joining a teenage reading group they run at Chorlton Library and at the Forum Library Wythenshawe. Contact these libraries for more details.
