Residential parking and driveway access
Residential disabled parking bay and H bar marking
A residential disabled parking bay is a parking bay marked out on the road outside the property of a disabled resident. The parking bay does not belong exclusively to the resident and may be used by any driver displaying a blue badge.
A H-bar marking are the white lines that are marked on the road alongside a dropped kerb, to allow vehicle access to property. The lines highlight to other vehicles that they shouldn't block access to off-road parking areas such as a driveway or garage.
This work is carried out without charge if you are an eligible blue badge holder and it is safe, physically possible and doesn't have a detrimental affect on street lighting, utility services, street trees and/or other street furniture.
You can also apply to have an existing disabled parking bay removed if it is no longer required. This work is carried out without charge.
What you can do
If you are a blue badge holder you can request:
- a residential disabled parking bay if you don't have off road parking at your home; or
- H bar marking if you have a driveway and what to keep the access free.
To submit an application we will need to know:
- the address where to work is required;
- letter of consent from your landlord, if you live in rented property;
- if there are any obstructions on the pavement which could obstruct the proposed crossing (ie tree/street light/grass verb); and
- if the crossing be adjacent to a traffic controlled junction?
What we can do
We will assess your application and an officer will meet with you and discuss your requirements on site. The work will be programmed when resources are available.
