Assessment of Child Poverty Needs

This document brings together local and national statistics to provide a holistic picture of child poverty in the city and of the impact of child poverty on education, health and well-being. The Child Poverty Needs Assessment includes comparisons against the national picture and a number of maps and charts showing how child poverty is distributed across the city. The needs assessment can be used to help inform the development of plans, policies, commissioning and services.

Manchester City Council and its partners have a long track record of tackling deprivation in the city. This work will continue, in particular through our Neighbourhood Regeneration Teams, through interventions to tackle worklessness and to help families with complex needs. The Council recognises there are specific challenges involved in reducing child poverty and mitigating its effects and will, in consultation with partners, set out our child poverty strategy in the coming months.
