How to Become a Fairtrade Friendly . . . Café or Restaurant
Many businesses in Manchester are already Fairtrade Friendly and we need to know who you are and what you stock. If you are planning on stocking Fairtrade products for your customers in the future, now is the time to do it and become Fairtrade Friendly. To achieve this Manchester residents should be able to easily access Fairtrade products in and around the city.
Manchester's diverse, progressive and dynamic social scene means the city is already well on its way to achieving it's target for Fairtrade City Status. Whether you're a small café' or a large chain restaurant, a café bar or a sandwich shop, Manchester needs you to become Fairtrade Friendly. The benefits of stocking Fairtrade alternatives will be evident; after all, improved consumer choice means more customers for you.
Fairtrade products need to be freely available in and around Manchester to achieve Fairtrade City status, so the more of you that come on board the quicker Manchester can become a Fairtrade City.
There are several simple steps to becoming Fairtrade Friendly:
- Ask your current supplier if they can source you Fairtrade alternatives
- Download the catering directory from http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/(external site) or look at the Manchester City Council Fairtrade directory for suppliers
- Stock two or more Fairtrade products - essential for Fairtrade Friendly accreditation
- Advertise the fact that you are selling Fairtrade products to your customers (Poster and leaflet packs are available from Manchester City Council.) - essential for Fairtrade Friendly accreditation
- Host a taste testing session
- Let us know!!
Once you have achieved this you will be a Fairtrade Friendly caterer and we can put you in our directory, which will be available to Manchester residents here on the Manchester City Council website and as a booklet.
