The Manchester Fairtade Detectives

The Manchester Fairtrade Detective

What's a Fairtrade Detective I hear you all say?

The Manchester Fairtrade Detective is a program to help the city council to locate who in Manchester sells Fairtrade products.  Fairtrade products are sold in schools, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, sports centres and in places of worship like churces and other fairth centres.

Outlets that sell at least 2 Fairtrade products can be included in our Fairtrade Friendly scheme and on-line in our Fairtrade outlets directory.

You can tell a product is Fairtrade as this logo will be somewhere on the packaging.  There are Fairtrade Logonow over 3000 Fairtrade products on sale so get looking!

We are working with local schools and United Response on our Fairtrade Detective scheme.  United Response is an organisation that works with people with learning disabilities and mental health problems and here is what Gemma Thompson, Deputy Service Manager has to say about the scheme.

"I met with the Fairtrade team and we have been working together to develop the Fairtrade Detectives.  We are very keen to be involved, not only because of the worthiness of the cause, but because being a Fairtrade Detective offers new opportunities to the people we support.  It motivates them to get out into the community, connect with businesses and meet people they might not usually encounter.  These are all ways in which we can help them to live fuller and more engaged lives, a core goal of United Response.  It will also help them develop new skills such as using public transport more extensively, and will hopefully offer the kind of work experience that will boost their confidence and lead them towards further job opportunities in the future.  We are very excited to see how our Fairtrade Detectives will get on!"

If you would like to take part in the Fairtrade Detectives scheme then you can use this form as a guide to some of the Fairtrade products that are out there.
