Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)

Why choose Manchester to start your career?

For an enjoyable and successful teaching career - choose Manchester!

Manchester is a great city in which to start your teaching career. Manchester schools welcome and support NQTs through their induction.  As you would expect in a major city, Manchester schools are diverse and are committed to inclusion and to meeting the needs of the communities they serve and the teachers they employ.

We typically have over 300 NQTs employed in our schools. NQTs bring many skills and enthusiasms to their work. We want you to develop these skills in a positive environment. We offer individually tailored induction programmes, coaching, shadowing and networking opportunities as well as overseas teaching opportunities for some. In return, we expect NQTs to provide quality teaching for Manchester's young learners, enabling them to reach their personal, social and academic potential.

Teachers trained outside of England & Wales will need to contact the General Teaching Council (GTC) on 0370 001 0308 to find out if they are eligible/required to do Induction.  Additionally, for information on becoming a teacher in England please visit the government Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) at http://www.tda.gov.uk/ where you will find information on the progammes/support available for overseas teachers.

Primary NQTs:

Primary NQT's are invited to register on the Primary Database and complete the online application form. Please make sure you download the Primary Job Description and Person Specification along with the Guidance Notes below before writing your Supporting Statement.

Secondary NQTs:

Registration for secondary NQTs is available on the Secondary Database where you are invited to lodge your details and upload a Supporting Statement. Do make sure you download the Secondary Job Description and Person Specification along with the Guidance Notes below before writing your Supporting Statement.

There is no longer a deadline for applications to submitted as the Talent Pool will now remain open all-year-round and although the bulk of NQT recruitment will take place for September, schools will look to recruit NQT's throughout the year usually at the beginning of each term.  All we ask is that you remember to withdraw your application if you secure employment in Manchester or another Local Authority.

Looking for accommodation? We also have The Apple Building which is a unique housing programme offering 53 contemporary apartments available to rent close to the city centre.  For further information and availabilty please visit: http://www.theapplebuilding.com/
