Strategy for Children and Young People with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD)
Vision for children and young people with (LDD)
This is a high level strategy which sets out the vision for children and young people with learning difficulties and disabilities (LDD) and their families in Manchester and describes how Children's Services and its partners will work in an integrated, coherent way, making the best use of available resources, to achieve this vision.
The strategy has been developed with the Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Board which has representation from a range of services and agencies working with children and their families in Manchester . Much of the content of the strategy is based on feedback from a wide range of consultation with parents/carers of disabled children and children and young people themselves.
There are six key principles identified in the strategy which take into consideration the outcomes of our consultation, as well as national and local policies and drivers for change. These are:
-
understanding and meeting need through universal, targeted and specialist services;
-
reducing inequalities and narrowing the gap in outcomes;
-
developing the workforce;
-
think family;
-
increasing engagement and participation of parents/carers, children and young people;
-
improving transitions.
A critical aspect within each of these principles is the importance of joint working with other agencies and partners. Any future policies, programmes or initiatives which impact on the lives of children and young people with LDD should ensure that they promote the vision described in this strategy and adopt these key principles.
