Manchester's first completed BSF project, Gorton Education Village, opened in September 2008, bringing two schools - a comprehensive and a specialist SEN college - together on a one eight-acre campus.
The Gorton Education Village project in East Manchester has created a single-site campus on an eight acre site providing 900 co-educational spaces and 110 specialist support SEN places. This 100% new build project with 2 schools under one roof will combine Cedar Mount High School and Melland SEN High School.
The building features a two-storey 100m internal 'street', a sports hall and community wing, a learning resource centre containing library and ICT facilities and specialist subject zones for Science, Humanities and English. There is also a medical suite on-site offering physiotherapy and hydrotherapy pool.
Gorton Education Village has been named the country's best 'healthy-learning environment' by the British Council for School Environments.
The £25m campus was the first in the north of England to be built under the Government's Building Schools for the Future programme.
