City Library at Number One First Street
Library services at Number One First Street
The brand new City Library at One First Street, the new City Council customer service centre, has now been open for a couple of weeks now. Sue and Layla have reported brisk business, with over 130 MCC staff alone joining, plus a thumbs-up from the Lord Mayor and a number of visiting councillors.
There has been a steady and diverse stream of customers, from Australian backpackers to the children from the St Peter's Sure Start Children's Centre, who love to look at the picture books, enjoy stories in the library and get to know the resident orange dog. Tears have been shed by little ones who didn't realise they couldn't use the brand new self-issue terminals to borrow the dog and take him home. They're helping us choose his name, though. Tango is the front-runner so far.
Early-bird council staff love the fast-track self-service technology, and are able to issue and return their own books before the library opens at 8am.
And the most popular stock at One First Street? Pregnancy, cookery and vampires...
