A Leader or an Elected Mayor?

Under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, the City Council must change its governance arrangements by the date of the next local election, which will be held ob 6 May 2010.  During August and September 2009 the City Council consulted with residents on whether they would prefer a 'new-style' Leader or an elected Mayor and the results of the consultation were reported to the City Council on 7 October 2009.

The City Council approved draft proposals for its future Executive arrangements on 2 December 2009.

You can find out more about changes to the City Council's Executive Arrangements, including the legal background to the changes, main features of the new governance arrangements and information about arrangements for discharging 'Local Choice Functions', in the documents below
