Mediation: services for registered social landlords

Want to use the mediation service?

Neighbour disputes and community conflicts can take up a lot of a landlord's time and energy. If your tenants are unhappy they'll complain to you, and may even move out.

Mediation can resolve disputes before legal bills pile up, and before staff get tied up in the stressful, time-draining effects of a dispute that spirals into a crisis. If it's done well, mediation pays for itself many times over.

Our expert mediators, backed by full-time support staff, resolve disputes about noise, pets, children's behaviour, property maintenance, parking, boundaries and other lifestyle-differences. And we set up community conferences to help resolve wider conflicts that affect several tenants.

We can help

Let us work with your tenants to find a solution. Mediation works in over 80% of cases when parties agree to meet together.

Because tenants take responsibility, the solution is usually a lasting one. That means you keep your tenants, relationships improve and the community is more stable. It's usually a much better option than expensive legal action.

Annual agreement

You can use our service on a case-by-case basis. But much better, and more cost-effective, is a tailor-made annual service level agreement (SLA) with us that suits your service and your staff. It includes:

  • leaflets, posters, and other publications
  • telephone advice for your staff
  • briefing your staff on referring cases
  • case management - we take the strain, keeping you briefed and in control
  • regular review meetings
  • access to our trained and supervised mediators - the key to successful mediation and healthy neighbourhoods

When we get your referral, we'll discuss it with you to make sure it's suitable and to get the background. We write to the tenants, and follow up with a phone call to explain the service. Only then do we allocate the case to mediators.

See the standards you can expect when we take on the case.

We're funded by not-for-profit landlords, so our charges are very competitive.
