An Introduction to Mediation, Early Intervention and Prevention
Course aims
To understand and develop confidence in the use of mediation as an effective tool in the prevention/escalation of anti social behaviour.
To explore early intervention and prevention tools, which can be used effectively to stop anti social behaviour cases escalating.
Modules:
- Understanding the basics - what is mediation?
- Can the mediators help Daniel and Kelsey in their battle with Lee over noise and ASB - short video
- Conflict transformation - working with one party
- Making appropriate referrals - when is mediation suitable?
- Engaging parties - helping them focus on the future
- Trying it out - observed role play based on cases
- Introduction to Early Intervention
- The traffic light warning system
- Acceptable Behaviour Agreements
- Community Agreements
- Positive support
Learning Outcomes
Delegates will be able to respond to and effectively resolve complaints of anti social behaviour where mediation is a suitable option. By understanding how to intervene at an early stage and make use of mediation when necessary, complaints will be resolved quickly stopping the anti social behaviour and improving the lives of residents and communities.
Delegates will develop an understanding of early intervention and the use of an incremental warning and support package aimed at resolving cases of anti social behaviour at an earlier stage.

This course is aimed predominantly at ASB practitioners and frontline staff including:
- Housing/Neighbourhood Officers
- Neighbourhood Managers
- ASB Case Workers
- Community Safety Officers
- Service Improvement Officers
- Tenancy Enforcement Officers
- Supported accommodation/shared housing staff
Cost
The one day training is £150 per delegate and includes lunch. We can offer discounts on group bookings from the same organisation.
