You can register to vote if you are:

Which elections you can vote in

If you're 18 and over and a UK or Irish citizen, or a qualifying Commonwealth citizen living in the UK, you can vote in all elections. This includes:

  • UK Parliament, general elections and by-elections

  • Local council elections and by-elections

  • Police and crime commissioner elections

  • Mayoral elections.

If you're 18 and over and an EU citizen, you can only vote in:

  • Local council elections and by-elections

  • Police and crime commissioner elections

  • Mayoral elections
