The Council & democracy Candidate Information

3 May 2018 Local Elections

The next local election in Manchester takes place on the 3 May 2018. You can find out more information regarding the election itself on our Your next election webpage.

Information and detailed guidance on standing as a candidate in local elections is available from the Electoral Commission's website.

The timetable for the election has been published.

We will be holding briefings for prospective Candidates and Agents on the 7 February and 14 February, with both meetings starting at 6pm in the Town Hall Extension. All people attending will need to sign in at the Facilities Management Office, this can be accessed by using the intercom on the Lloyd Street entrance of the Town Hall Extension which is near the Cenotaph and St Peters Square.

Please note that the same briefing is being repeated on both 7 and 14 February because of the number of candidates who will be standing in the election. There is no need to attend both briefings.

Nomination packs, which include a set of nomination papers and a copy of the Electoral Commissions Candidate and Agents Guidance, will be available for collection at the above briefings or electronically from the 8 February onwards.

The briefing will cover key aspects of the nomination process, the issuing of poll cards and postal packs, postal vote opening and an overview of arrangements for polling day and verification, count and declaration. A further briefing regarding polling day and providing detailed arrangements for the verification, count and declaration of results will take place after the close of nominations.

If you wish to attend either of the above briefings or register your interest in standing, you should email us at
